Howarth Timber is the UK’s largest privately-owned timber company, with over 180 years of trading experience. The Howarth Timber Group has grown to provide not only the widest range of products, but expertise, service, and knowledge.
Howarth Timber began working with Distinctly earlier this year to improve brand awareness and visibility across the UK market.
Our digital PR strategy was to target national and regional press by providing content and advice for members of the public on the upkeep of their houses and gardens.

We leveraged existing content from Howarth Timber’s blog pages to create specialised press releases that appealed to our target audience by re-angling it to fit a more lifestyle focus, therefore enabling us to target national and regional publications.
The key to our strategy was understanding that the individual blog content as a standalone piece was not enough to entice lifestyle audiences.
Instead, we combined pieces of information from across multiple blog posts to create a new amalgamation of advice that provided a more cohesive and detailed expert commentary.
Part of our strategy also included reacting to weather and seasonal changes. Our most successful campaign so far has been an October outreach of advice on ‘Expert shares a 5-step guide to preparing your garden for winter’.
For this particular guide, we incorporated advice from different blog pages on winter preparations and fleshed out the material already there with more detail.
Our aim was to target lifestyle journalists at national and regional publications to ensure wider visibility for Howarth Timber and provide guidance and advice for a more universal audience.

This outreach resulted in 20 links to the Howarth Timber homepage, making up half of the 40 links we’ve gained this year since we started this partnership.
These results included national publications such as The Sun, The Express and The Mirror, as well as regional coverage in the likes of the Liverpool Echo, Devon Live and Wales Online.
The average domain rating across the total coverage was 82.
The activity exceeded targets and demonstrated digital PR tactics that can be fast yet still deliver results.
