Distinctly steps up for Ovacome: Chiltern 50k Ultra Challenge

On Saturday 28th September, Team Distinctly set out among 1,700 walkers, joggers and runners to tackle the Chiltern 50k Ultra Challenge – in aid of our partnered charity, Ovacome.

After eleven hours and 70,000 steps (with nearly as many blisters), all twelve of the team crossed the finish line with limbs – and working relationships – still intact.

Having partnered with Ovacome earlier this year, we were eager to get fundraising for our chosen charity, with the 50k ultra event offering a brilliant opportunity for willing volunteers to put their legs to the test for a good cause.

We first got in touch with Ovacome in March, after selecting them as our chosen charity for the year ahead. As usual, we were passionate about contributing to a local organisation, and with our London offices just two doors apart, we were thrilled to be able to collaborate with our Featherstone Street neighbours.

More importantly, Ovacome were a cause the whole agency felt we could proudly support.

As the national UK ovarian cancer charity, Ovacome provide support and information to anyone affected by ovarian cancer. This includes people who have either been diagnosed with the disease or think that they might be at risk, as well as their friends and family and healthcare professionals.

As part of their work, Ovacome provide direct support to over 6,200 people through their support line and events each year, while helping over 80,000 people with their expert information materials.

The team at Distinctly were excited to offer their help, and after a few months’ preparation, we completed our first major fundraiser in aid of Ovacome.

Taking place in the Chiltern Hills, the challenge was perfectly located for the team to participate, with easy access from our Rickmansworth HQ and our London office. The day itself required 5am wake-up calls to make our way to the startline, while a few team members (regrettably) chose to brave the elements and pitch up on-site the night before.

After a mortifying group warm-up/Zumba class, the 50k was underway.

The next eleven hours saw our Head of Digital PR and Organic Strategy Lead keep pace with the event’s top runners, while the rest of the team hit their stride in an 11 hour march.

Between eating copious amounts of pastries and tripping over rocks, the team enjoyed the one dry day of the week, with ideal conditions for the event.

We were invested in taking on a physical challenge to align with our agency values and focus on wellbeing. Distinctly place huge significance on the value of exercise, and actively champion movement and group activity, recognising the positive benefits to our working and welfare.

From last year’s ‘Distinctly Dash’ to this year’s Chiltern 50k, participation in fundraising has increased massively, with huge credit to everyone involved.

Once the sore legs heal and feet recover, we’ll be setting our sights on next year’s fundraising challenge. Whether we plan a 100km, or just ask Finch to carry a fridge up Ben Nevis, we’re always incredibly grateful to work with and support such worthwhile organisations.

So far, the team have raised £4,892.26, with an additional £1,139.61 of Gift Aid. These donations could pay for one whole year of online support groups and workshops for six people diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

Any last few donations would make a huge difference. If able to, please donate to Ovacome using the link below:
