Is your website past its sell by date? Feel like it doesn’t adequately reflect your business anymore?

So, you need a new website, or at least need to update your current one. Is it that simple though? Unfortunately not. At Distinctly Digital HQ we are going through this issue in our business right now and wanted to share with you a Step by Step guide on how to approach this to achieve the best results.

First, it is imperative that you consider the scope of your requirements in detail before heading full steam into the creation of a new online presence. The importance of a strong web presence cannot be understated hence the need for a focussed strategy. Bear in mind that the strategy, then the content need to be defined before you even consider the design and build process.

In terms of strategy, our advice is to start with a ‘Creative Brief’. Within this document, you need to analyse in detail where your business is right now and where you want it to be. For example, what are your key messages? What are your short and medium term goals? Once you’ve reflected on those issues, you need to consider your target audience. Attaining an accurate picture of who you need to address is crucial and you may be surprised at how this has changed since your last analysis of it! This data will then allow you to consider the communication strategy and competitive position to adopt… And don’t forget that all important ‘single-minded’ message which will ensure you remain focussed throughout the project.

Once this is all finalised, you should then be in a position to start work on your content review which we will cover in Step 2…
